A fuel pump, which can be mechanical or electronic, draws fuel from a tank to feed a carburetor or fuel injection system. In this model, the fuel pump is situated so close to the carburetor that it draws fuel directly from the gas tank. The essential gasoline must be transferred from the tank to the engine under pressure using a fuel pump. If the fuel pump is defective or malfunctions, it is unable to deliver fuel to the engine.
