A stator is an engine component attached beneath the engine's flywheel. Magnets attached to the inside of the engine's flywheel rotate around the stator. Windings in the stator generate alternating current power. For most Mercury outboards, the stator serves two main tasks. The first step is to provide voltage in switch boxes or CMDs.
