The characteristics of carburetors include a liquid fuel storage chamber, a choke, an idle (or slow-running) jet, the main jet, a venturi-shaped air-flow restriction, and an accelerator pump. The valve has excellent control over the fuel level in the storage chamber. To properly feed a fuel-rich charge into the cylinders during cold engine starts, the choke, a butterfly valve, reduces air intake. The choke opens as the engine heats up, either manually or with the help of heat- and engine-speed-responsive controllers.
