Aluminum oxide and silicon carbide are the most common materials to make abrasive discs. It is a chemical compound of aluminum and oxygen that forms rocks and is universally denoted by "A." Because of its hardness, it can scratch almost any other material, which is why it is primarily used in steel applications. It is the most common aluminum oxide abrasive. It is extremely tough and durable, making it ideal for heavy-duty tasks such as snagging steel castings, grinding welding seams, and cutting iron and steel. Its crystal structure and fracture characteristics suit high precision and large stock removal grinding operations. It is also used to sharpen tools.
These discs are ideal for sanding in areas where loading is an issue. They are suitable for bare wood sanding and autobody work. Sanding bare metal, primer, primer surfacer, between coats of paint, and on solid surface countertops such as CORIAN, FOUNTAINHEAD, and AVONITE are some of the other applications.
