A turbocharger, often known as a turbo, is a forced induction device powered by the flow of exhaust gases in an internal combustion engine. In order to produce higher power for a given displacement, it uses this energy to compress the intake gas and force more air into the engine. A supercharger is mechanically powered (typically by a belt from the engine's crankshaft). A turbocharger is powered by the kinetic energy of the exhaust gases, according to the current classification. The purpose of the turbocharger is to compress more air entering the engine's cylinder. The oxygen molecules are forced closer together when air is well-compressed. For a naturally aspirated engine of the same size, more air allows for the addition of more fuel.
