While your boat is on an inclined launching ramp, you can draw it onto the trailer using trailer winches. Winches are mounted using an adapter plate on a specific winch stand on the trailer tongue, the bow stops support or the trailer's hitch ball. A reel or spool has a snap at the very end and can store 20–50 feet of cable, rope, or webbing. The winch operator can either crank the boat onto the trailer or let it slide back into the water at a controlled rate with the snap fastened to the boat's bow eye. You can overcome gravity and friction by pulling a rather heavy boat with the aid of hand-cranked manual winches.
