Trim tabs are two independently movable metal plates at the helm controlled by a panel. Unbalances in engine torque or weight distribution can be corrected using these tabs. Trim tabs have a purpose on a boat. They provide you the ability to independently adjust the hull and prop in addition to making lateral adjustments to prevent a sideways list. The power trim adjusts the prop because the trim tabs can handle hull trimming.
