A mercury switch box is an electrical switch that opens and closes a circuit by connecting metal electrodes with a small amount of liquid metal mercury. There are numerous basic designs (tilt, displacement, radial, and so on), but they all share the standard design strength of non-eroding switch contacts.
To supply electricity, battery ignition system does include a 6- or 12-volt battery charged by an engine-driven generator, an ignition coil to increase voltage, a device to interrupt current from the ring, a distributor to direct current to the correct cylinder, and a spark plug projecting into each cylinder.
