SPEEDOMETER (F33704) is a device on a boat that compares the boat's speed to the speed of the water. In this method, a pitometer is used. The pitometer calculates an estimated speed traveled by comparing the speed of water entering a tube to air pressure.
SPEEDOMETER (F33704) - A pitot tube connected to the speedometers on the dashboard by a cable running through the underside of the boat and sticking out into the water. The boat's pacing is estimated using a change in pressure. It means that as you speed up, more pressure builds up, causing the gauge to show a faster record, and as you slow down, less pressure builds up, causing the gauge to show a slower record.

Note: a water pressure-based speedometer will tell there is a need to go faster over water, and depending on the way the current is flowing, this will add or subtract a fraction of the reading.
