Shift Cable - BRP (987964)

A transmission shift cable, commonly known as a shifter cable, connects a shifter handle to the transmission. When selecting a gear set, a driver adjusts the shifter handle to modify its position. The shift selector indicates that the driver has changed it by moving the shift selector cable, which shifts the gearbox into the appropriate gear.

In contrast to manual transmission engines, automatic transmission vehicles often have two cables running from the transmission to the shifter assembly. The shifter handle won't automatically return to neutral if the shift cable breaks. The horizontal cable must remain intact. Otherwise, shifting will not be possible. Only third or fourth gear will be available if the vertical cable breaks.
