SENDER (F90513) measures the amount of fuel in the fuel tank and sends the data to the fuel gauge on the watercraft dashboard. The SENDER has a rheostat that provides ground resistance. As the fuel arm moves from empty to full, contact is moved across the board on the rheostat, causing the resistance to vary as seen by the fuel gauge.
The SENDER (F90513) is near the top of the fuel tank. The SENDER is a small round plate with two wire connections on either side. The sender's resistance (ohms) varies as the float moves from full (up) to empty (down) (down). The gauge needle moves in response to resistance changes.
Following the American Boat and Yacht Council standards, SENDER (F90513) has two wires, one for the ground and one for the sender. The gauge has three connections: one for the ground (black), one for the sender (pink), and one for the 12-volt DC positive. If the positive wire is connected to an accessory switch, it will be red, and if it is connected to the key switch, it will be purple. Furthermore, embossed markings on the back of the gauge will indicate which terminal is which (S for the sender, G for ground).
