The spacer, like the thrust washer, aids in prop alignment to the shaft when the inner hub is unable to hold its shape, but this time at the aft end of the prop. With its large surface area, the spacer bears reverse thrust loads and prevents the inner hub from moving aft. However, unlike a thrust washer, it is dependent on the final washer and nut to keep it from moving on the shaft. When installing the propeller, replace the original thrust washer on the propeller shaft in the same position that it was removed. The thrust washer's taper should match the taper on the propeller shaft. Grease the propeller shaft, slide the propeller assembly onto the propeller shaft and install a spacer or washer if necessary.
