The prop nut kit from Sea Star solutions contains prop nut, cotter pin, and washers. The prop nuts' role is to keep the propeller snugly seated against the shaft taper. The prop nuts don't take much stress in typical operations since engine force maintains the propeller pressing into the shaft. When the castle nut tightened, the cotter pin passes through a hole in the prop shaft, with its slots matched on both sides of the hole. And the washers help to fill the space between the spacer and the nut, where the prop shaft's splines end and threads begin.
