The purpose of the prop nuts is to keep the propeller securely fastened to the shaft taper. As long as the engine is running, the propeller will continue to press against the shaft with little strain placed on the prop bolts. The nuts may feel some load when moving rearward, but it is only temporary and of little significance. The threads on the prop shaft are the sole fundamental distinction between CW (clockwise) and CCW (counterclockwise) motors. That means that for a counterclockwise motor, turning the prop nut clockwise is the proper way to tighten it. For CW motors, the prop nuts must also be locked by rotating them counterclockwise.
