The oil seals are employed if all of the boat's components are from the same material. Allowing the materials to contract and expand while in use stops leakage. Rubber seals are typically more expensive than metal-cased seals. While dirt and other debris are kept out of the shafts and bearings, oil and grease are permitted to depart. An oil seal consists of two parts: a flexible inner element that seals the oil and is chemically linked to the outer circular metal portion.
