The metal parts encircle the bore and chamber, adding to the head gasket's healing qualities. An O-ring is a circular-looped gasket that seals two working surfaces together. Oil may leak into the valve guides, where it gets burned inside the combustion chamber if this little and otherwise simple component is missing.
