A fastener with a threaded hole of this kind is called a nut. Typically, a corresponding bolt and nut are together to secure multiple parts. Combining the forces of the bolt's minor stretching, the compression of the pieces together, and the friction between the two partners' threads (with some elastic deformation), the two partners are maintained. Numerous locking mechanisms are used where vibration or rotation could cause a nut to undo. It includes lock washers, jam nuts, eccentric double nuts, specialized adhesive thread-locking fluid like Loctite, safety pins (split pins), or lockwire in conjunction with castellated nuts, and threads that have a slightly oval shape.
