Spur grommets can be inserted into sailcloth, canvas, leather, webbing, and many other materials and placed under loads that would destroy conventional grommets. They come in two pieces: the washer and the grommet itself, which has a barrel that is well-inserted through the fabric. Spur grommets are composed of thicker metal than conventional ones, and the barrel is longer. When the grommets are well-placed, the washers' tiny triangular teeth penetrate the material, and the grommet's rolling rim catches the washer spur tips as they bend outward.
