Small boats like kayaks, dinghies, canoes, and others use a grapnel anchor. It is also well-liked by anglers. They are simple to pack and fold up quite a little. A Grapnel can only be held in place by latching onto something else, such as a rock.
The four arms of a grapnel typically fold for convenient storage. The grapnel form allows the anchor to dig in regardless of its orientation when it strikes the bottom. Its relatively light weight makes it manageable, but because of its shape, it can get tangled in coral and rocks. To release it, use a buoyed trip line fastened to the crown.
