Petrol is pumped through a pipe from the tank into the carburetor, it merges with air before being sucked into the engine. In the fuel-injection system utilized in some engines, air and fuel combine in the input manifold. Petrol is drawn from the tank through a conduit to the carburetor by a fuel pump. Low-pressure mechanical pumps are outside the gasoline tank in engines that use carburetion. Fuel-injected motors frequently feature electric fuel pumps inside the tank, and some even have two pumps: a low-pressure/high-volume supply pump inside the tank and a high-pressure/low-volume pump on or close to the engine.
