The exhaust mixing elbows are found on all marine engines and are used to feed and mix extra cooling water with exhaust gases exiting the engine's exhaust manifold, cooling the exhaust and reducing noise levels. The cooling salt water is mixed with the exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold via the exhaust mixing elbow. It then travels to the muffler (housed in the engine mount housing on the port side) and then to the exhaust exit on the port quarter. Replace the exhaust elbow regularly to avoid leaking salt water to the inside of the exhaust manifold.
