Cover Gasket - Sierra Marine Engine Parts (18-99141)

A valve cover gasket prevents oil from exiting the engine and protects the cylinder head components from the elements. The gasket, which is often plastic, rubber, or cork, acts as a two-way barrier between the engine cover and the engine. The valve cover gasket is a motor component. During operation, the intake and exhaust valves of the motor open and close swiftly. This technique generates a lot of mechanical motion, thus it has to be lubricated with a hot oil spray. However, if the gasket is damaged, it will be unable to maintain a seal between the oil and the valve cover, resulting in engine damage. In the event of a breakdown, debris and small particles could get between the pistons and cylinders, causing wear and tear on the components. Furthermore, if engine oil spills, metal may grind against metal, reducing engine life.
