The Main Switch Board is a connecting device between the power generators and power consumers in the ship's power distribution circuit. Auxiliary engines with alternators serve as the power generators on boats, and other engine room appliances, including motors and blowers, help as the consumers. Any defect in an electrical system that receives power from the main switchboard (MSB) must be isolated immediately; otherwise, it will impact every other system connected to that system. If such isolation is not offered, even a little system short circuit could result in a shipwide blackout.
