SPARK PLUG (86-3133) transmits electric current from an ignition system to a spark-ignition engine's combustion chamber, allowing an electric spark to ignite a compressed fuel/air mixture while maintaining the engine's combustion pressure. The ignition system provides enough electricity to spark across the spark plug gap. It has a firing end temperature that is kept at a low enough level to prevent pre-ignition. The most significant structural alteration that impacts the heat value is the length of the insulator nose. The space between the insulator's firing tip and the point where the insulator hits the metal shell is bigger on a hotter spark plug insulator nose. As a result, the heat dissipation distance between the insulator nose and the cylinder head is longer.
