Most bellows are well-made of stainless steel with a carbon steel pipe. If utilized, liners are slipped in to guard against erosion and to prevent flutter in applications with high flow rates. Liners take into consideration during the manufacturing process. Where possible damage to the thin bellows is a worry; covers also shield them from potential harm. They are well-produced using a mechanical forming process or, more ideally, hydroforming. Even though single bellow joints are the most prevalent, their lateral offset is not very large. Two bellows in a universal arrangement are well-required for significant lateral movements. The longer the center pipe spool, the more lateral movement possible. Axial compression that is longer due to thermal expansion is frequently advantageous and can be well-provided by metal joints under external pressure (such as flex craft model EP).
