In the big end, the needle roller bearing operates under heavy bearing loads in a constrained area. The rollers execute planetary motion between the crankpin and the big end, and the smaller diameter makes the big end light, thereby saving weight but increasing contact stress. The side surface of the retainer holding the rollers is well-shielded from the side push by a soft silver coating. The effectiveness and longevity of the bearings play a critical role in extending the engine's lifespan. At high-speed revolutions, rolling contact fatigue is prone to occur, and this route surface deterioration is known as rolling contact fatigue failure. This happens when the smooth, polished surface is repeatedly rolled and breaks.
