Using a keyed joint, shaft keyways and keys are used to transfer torque from shafts to mechanical transmission components like gears, pulleys, etc. They can be produced either using a conventional stock material, like key stock, or specially machined to meet the needs of the application.
5/16" Stainless Steel Keys are rectangular or square keyways that secure rotating components to a shaft. To assemble a spinning assembly, Shaft Keys are inserted into slots drilled in a pulley or sprocket. A shaft key secures a functional element by securing the key in or to the shaft. Mechanical components include stem and keys. Most of the time, rods are accustomed to transmitting rotating motion and torque from one area to another. Keys are used to link the mechanical components on the rod, such as cams and gears.
Key Features:
To secure the operational part, the key is fastened in or to the shaft.
transmit rotational motion and torque from one location to another.
Connect mechanical components like cams and gears.
