In the shipbuilding and maritime industries, adhesives and sealants have a long history of protecting against water, chemicals, weather, and environmental damage. Natural sealants such as pine resins were boiled down and used extensively in the early days of seafaring, needing constant re-treatments. Man-made derivatives, such as "pitch" (a tar-like substance manufactured from petroleum, coal tar, or some plants), later proved to be more resistant. Fast Cure 4200 Adhesive/Seal - 3M - 06560 (8-06560) has a lot of purposes in terms of bonding any materials. They are for additional objectives besides adhesion, such as sealing agents to reduce the effect of self-loosening induced by dynamic loads, sealing off areas to avoid oxidation and corrosion, waterproofing, and so on. Sealants secure components from electrical and thermal insulators, fire barriers, and smoothing, fileting, and flying products. Because sealant formulations contain considerable volumes of inert filler material for cost reduction and gap-filling objectives, sealant formulations have lesser strength than adhesive formulations. Sealants, such as adhesives, are also for parts assembly, and many adhesives can seal.
Key Features:
Specification:
A one-part general purpose polyurethane that chemically reacts with moisture to deliver flexible bonds with good adhesion to wood, fiberglass, gel coat, certain plastics and metals. Ideal for rub-rails, stern-joints, deck and through-hull fittings, and access plates. Medium strength allows for disassembly.
