HMS hubs have kept working on developing various prop hubs to meet the needs of new engine designs and specific boater desires. The 250–300 Horsepower Suzuki 90 Durometer (VS–35–90) has undergone numerous revisions, including sturdier hubs built to resist powerful engines and ones that lessen shift clunk when using stainless steel props. Combinations of components that can accommodate a range of engines and satisfy the needs of different boaters have been and continue to exist. Before through-hub exhaust systems, propeller blades were with a small central hub mounted directly on the prop shaft, and some inboard propellers still use this arrangement today. Between the prop hub and shaft, a simple "shear pin" or "drive pin" was inserted to safeguard the early drive train.
